Sonia has been a pre-school educator for 22 years and loves being part of the Pioneers team. She enjoys working with children of all ages, providing them with valuable and memorable experiences at home and in the community.
Sonia has a vast range of resources at her fingertips, encompassing all areas of play and including a fantastic and challenging outside area. She focuses on developing children’s life skills within a natural setting while planning for individual learning using Te Whāriki – The Early Childhood Curriculum.
Sonia runs a transition to school programme once children turn four and also takes tamariki along to weekly gymnastics sessions, music and playgroups where they can enjoy valuable interactions with larger groups of children.
Sonia believes that home-based childcare and education is a fantastic way for pre-school aged children to form friendships and to learn and play alongside other children of different ages. With a maximum of four children in her care she is able to follow a set programme but also has the freedom to maximise spontaneous learning opportunities and respond to each individual child’s needs.
